Language and Literature
Taught by: Reashikaa Verma
This month we further progressed in our reading of the book “A Doll’s House”. We learnt dialogue writing. The utilization of “STEAL” for character analysis provided us with a much more in-depth understanding of the characters. We also learnt how to write a brief introductory paragraph to provide further context to the dialogue script. Then, we moved on to Interview writing. As of now, students are working on their interview scripts, and we plan to get our work peer-reviewed to ensure collaboration in the classroom.

Physics
We explored friction, which affects everyday scenarios like cars stopping at red lights and figure skaters gliding gracefully. We learnt about various forces like gravitational force, which pulls objects towards each other, and air drag, which opposes motion through the air. Understanding the balance of these forces in nature became clearer as they progressed. Wrapping up with a discussion on work, energy, and power, we explored how these forces play into the dynamics of motion. We also learned about power, the rate at which work is done, tying it all together.

Chemistry
Over the past month, we have delved into the captivating realm of organic chemistry. We focused on two important groups of organic compounds: alkanes and alkenes. We delved into their general formula, understanding how to build their structural and molecular formulas by applying the general formula. Additionally, we examined their physical properties and various real-life applications. Through experiments, such as testing with bromine water, we learned how to distinguish between alkanes and alkenes based on colour change.

Biology
As a class activity, we used different graphic organisers to decode our unit details. Withwith the help of annotated diagrams, we recapitulated the human respiratory system. We then learned about inspiration and expiration. Further, we learned about aerobic and anaerobic respiration. We conducted a laboratory activity in which we observed the type of respiration in yeast and created a comprehensive report detailing our findings. This activity helped us to improve our self-management skills. We also had an interactive class presentation where we presented the role of yeast in different industries. This knowledge will allow the other students and me to better understand the human body and how different systems maintain our survival in the world.

We started with the new unit Trigonometry. we delved deeper into the topic by understanding its basics through a fun acronym SOH CAH TOA.. Furthermore, we created clinometers in class which are interesting tools used to measure angles with ease. This further allows us to express our creativity and skills through the project. Moreover, we were given a fun assessment that expanded our understanding on the topic whilst allowing us to indulge with our artistic skills through the creation of paper satellites.

French Emergent Phase I
This month, we continued on with the unit ‘Travel and Vacations’. We started off by learning more complex thematic vocabulary and learned how to describe our vacations with proper format. We then proceeded to create a self-profile and talk about what type of travelers we are and why. We did a group activity where we were split into two groups and were asked to choose between beaches or mountains as our travel destination. We then presented about the chosen location and went into detail about each aspect of these locations including culture, cuisines, temperature, activities etc. We also focused a lot on grammatical skills and sentence structures to enhance our written works. Throughout the month, we had numerous class discussions and activities that helped us develop several ATL skills such as communication skills and critical thinking skills along with making concepts much clearer.

French Emergent Phase 2
The highlight of the month was the International Mother’s Day Celebration, where students from Phase 2 French, alongside their Phase 1 comrades, performed the enchanting French song “Au bout de mes rêves” by Jean-Jacques Goldman. The melody echoed through the halls, a beautiful testament to the universal language of music and its power to unite across linguistic barriers. The curriculum for the month was particularly engaging, covering the different types of vacations and travelers, and the reasons one should travel. Discussions ranged from dream vacations to recounting past adventures, offering a glimpse into the diverse experiences and aspirations of our class. These conversations not only enriched our vocabulary but also broadened our horizons, teaching us the importance of travel in gaining new perspectives and understanding different cultures.

French Capable Phase III
The month of February was dedicated to understanding the ways and the works of expressing our ‘Academic and Professional Goals’ in French. Firstly, we conducted a presentation regarding our dreams and aspirations in our Academic and Professional lives. The students honed their creativity, communication, public speaking and presentation skills. Furthermore, we were able to understand how to describe and discuss our aspirations in French. Secondly, we conducted a presentation regarding the challenges associated with migrating from rural to urban societies on one’s academic and professional lives. We understood the content and were challenged to express thoughts and ideas in French. Thirdly, the student began the process of creating manual posters to illustrate our transition from now, as mere children, into an individual in a particular domain or professional field. This would mean what subjects we aim to pursue, which universities we aim to study in, and our field of study. This activity was an opportunity to reflect on the student’s goals, and understand how they would like to proceed in their academic and professional lives.

The new unit that we have started is vacations and travel. We started with a stop and think activity where we answered questions after watching a video which worked on our Criterion A (Listening) skills and would later help us in the FA and SA. Later we practised  a vocabulary list which we also revised in class which helped enhance our vocabulary and learn new words.

We started this month by learning about dialogue writing and discussing its convections. Along with this, to develop our vocabulary we started learning and writing down a new batch of words each day which we called ‘Today’s Words’. This also included Farsi, Turkish and Arabic words which have been incorporated into the Hindi language. Then we did a peer task in which we had a conversation about the impact of AI and following that, we gave our Criterion D FA. Finally, we did a ‘Peel the Fruit’ activity in which we analysed a video about AI which helped us develop our writing and thinking skills.

The unit ‘Travel and Vacations’ is coming to an end and we have just finished our summative assessments. We reflected on sustainability and how we can be more eco-friendly when we travel. Additionally, we revisited vocabulary through fun word-wall games, making postcards for our friends and competitive quizzes. The best part was the International Mother Language Day in which we performed on the peppy Spanish song “Sofía ” and created beautiful bookmarks representing Spanish culture, not to forget the exciting bookmark bonanza quiz which we hosted and everyone loved.

This month, we started the newly discovered mode of art – Animal Portraits. To connect our unit with our global context, globalisation and sustainability, we were to choose only animals on the brink of extinction or already extinct. We were to perform extensive research on our chosen animal, referring to its scientific name, natural habitat, significance in the ecosystem, what it consumed, and its cause of extinction. Posy research, we began drawing them. To present this artwork, we reused cardboard boxes, covered them with waste paper, drew our animal on an ivory sheet, and pasted that on top of the  box. Additionally, in order to make the artwork as engaging as possible, students were encouraged to incorporate an optical illusion with the animal. In order to further develop our skills in creating the final artwork, we also practised various shading techniques, like cross-hatching and short dashes.

Continuing with our theatre journey, we took inspiration from a book called “Man’s Search for Meaning”, by Victor Frankl and understood the varied perspectives the author has to offer. Then we created a script that encompassed the perspective of different stakeholders in a war-like situation and set the context in the time frame of the second world war. Not only we were able to understand different points of view, but creating dialogues based on these roles helped us to relate more to the situation and experience a more personalized perspective and also get a very brief introduction to method acting and immersive theatre.

Dance
Taught by:

Over the past month, we explored various dance forms ranging from learning the precise footwork of Kathak to immersing ourselves in fundamental hip-hop routines. Task 3 required each of us to create a dance piece that was influenced by the dance style we had selected. This exercise helped us develop our creative instincts and our ability to express ourselves through creating original choreography. Furthermore, our attempts to combine the soulful melodies of Indian music with hip-hop dancing demonstrated our openness to embracing cultural fusion and pushing boundaries of artistic expression.
